Summer’s here & this may be the last time you have the opportunity to work remotely. As a lawyer at a firm, you’re paid to bill time. And that mentality doesn’t bode well for days off, vacations or breaks in general. Endless screen time, back-to-back zoom calls, working around the clock & not scheduling time off will inevitably lead to burnout. Burnout can affect your physical & mental health & some symptoms include:
- Alienation from work
- Headaches, stomachaches, extreme fatigue
- Emotional exhaustion
- Reduced performance
The past year has been pretty hectic for most of the AmLaw 100 firms, so my bet is you’ve been working hard. You deserve a break. My suggestion is to prioritize self-care by taking some time off this summer to completely recharge. Leave your computer at home. Go off the grid, get outside, relax. I know that sounds impossible to some, but it’s critical. You’ll come back stronger, gain clarity & motivation. And honestly, you need it. The billable hours will always be there, but your overall health may not.
